Chapter Seven (January 2, 1969) (Draft)

Thursday, January 2, 1969

(Hollywood, California)

Marina Elizabeth Habe, 17-year-old daughter of an actress and a writer, was found slain late Wednesday at the bottom of a thickly wooded ravine off Mulholland Drive. The body was found fully clothed.

The dark-haired daughter of Hans Habe of Zurich, Switzerland, and Eloise Hardt, Habe was home on Christmas vacation from college. She was last seen on Sunday night. "We know the cause of death, but it will be a few hours before it is made public," a sheriff’s homicide officer said, three hours after the body was discovered.

Witnesses said there were no visible marks on the body.

Stormy
-
You were the sunshine, baby,
-
Whenever you smiled
-
But I call you Stormy today
-
All of a sudden that ole rain’s fallin’ down
-
And my world is cloudy and gray
-
You’ve gone away
-
Oh, Stormy, oh, Stormy
-
Bring back that sunny day
–"Stormy," Classics IV (2)

Stoney pulls himself together after his super acid trip/heroin fix and announces he’s hitchhiking to New York City to sell those 500 tabs of acid–bought cheap in San Francisco last month–
Minus 13 tabs.

I beg him not to go–on so many levels, hitching cross country is too dangerous. Cops, rednecks, thieves, killers, all just waiting to arrest, beat up, roll, or even kill someone careless like Stoney.

Devil-may-care Stoney. I’ve never met anyone who was so slapdash with his dope.

"This shit’s so hot on the east coast," he says. "And I can make a killing."

"I wish you wouldn’t go."

He sighs. "I have to."

I cry as he sews 487 tabs of STP into the lining of his coat.

He kisses me goodbye. "I’ll see you in two weeks."

"Will you?"

"Don’t worry, I’ll be back."
